Frankincense is the incense resin that comes from Boswellia, Yemeni, Omani, and Somalian incense trees.
The most commonly used resin is without doubt frankincense or incense resin. This resin is obtained, like most other types of natural resin, through an incision in the bark of the tree. The resin that pours out following this incision is collected once it is dried.

Are all the varieties of Boswellia olibanum incense the same ?
No, each olibanum has its own special features. On the one hand, olibanums come from various trees depending on the region of production. Incense from Oman - boswellia sacra, Indian incense - boswellia serrata or Aden incense - boswellia carterii. These are still types of Boswellia, a tree from the Burseraceae family. If Somalian, Aden and Yemen incense are highly valued for their pleasing fragrances, it is the olibanum from Oman which is indisputably considered as being the best incense in the world. This olibanum with beautiful clean drops originates from the Dhofar region (the south of the Sultanate of Oman, on the border with Yemen), and is particularly fine, with a superior resin scent that has a typical citrus note.
