Sandalwood White Powder
White Sandalwood or Mysore Sandalwood, as a fine powder for incense blends
White sandalwood has a sweet, balsamic smell and is included in many blends, together with olibanum, myrrh, in powder form or as chips.
An incense with sandalwood is said to convey an atmosphere of peace and serenity.
Where does white sandalwood come from ?
Sandalwood (Santalum album) used to be native to India, in the western part, more precisely in the state of Karnataka (Mysore is a city in this state). The forests were over-exploited and sandalwood had almost disappeared from these regions. Today, the wood comes mainly from Australia, where it was imported (but also from Indonesia and Sri Lanka), but nowhere in the world can you grow a wood with the characteristics of Indian sandalwood and its incomparable fragrance, which results from its special "terroir".
Fortunately, in recent years, India has been replanting this tree and trying to protect it. Our sandalwood, whether in the form of powder or chips, therefore comes from this country again. Note, however, that its fragrance may vary depending on the delivery (also its colour). Regardless of its fragrance, it is excellent for incense blends.
