Product description

Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens) is an aromatic wood from South America that is traditionally used for incense burning. These Palo Santo wood sticks come from Peru and release a warm, woody fragrance with delicate resinous and lightly citrus notes.

The Spanish name «Palo Santo» means «Holy Wood». In various South American incense traditions, its smoke is associated with cleansing spaces and creating a pleasant atmosphere. Its distinctive fragrance makes Palo Santo one of the best-known aromatic woods of South America.

Fragrance Profile

When burned, Palo Santo develops a warm, woody and aromatic fragrance. Resinous notes blend with lightly citrus nuances, while the smoke releases the gentle and characteristic scent of this naturally aromatic wood.

How to Use

The wood sticks can be burned on glowing incense charcoal. Alternatively, a piece can be lit directly:

  • Hold one end of the wood stick in a flame for a few seconds.
  • Then carefully blow out the flame so that the wood continues to smoulder gently.
  • Place the smouldering piece in a heat-resistant incense bowl.
  • Repeat the process once the wood has gone out on its own.

The resulting smoke is particularly suitable for fumigating small rooms. For easier use on incense charcoal, you will also find Palo Santo Chips in our range.

How to Recognise Aromatic Palo Santo

High-quality Palo Santo already has a clearly noticeable fragrance before it is lit. When cut along the wood fibres, the wood’s natural aromatic oils are released more strongly. This can intensify the fragrance and make the blade used slightly sticky.
