Baieido – Japanese Incense Sticks with Sandalwood and Agarwood (12)
For nearly 400 years, Baieido has embodied the finest tradition of Japanese incense – hand-crafted incense sticks made from white sandalwood and precious agarwood, following formulas passed down through generations at their Osaka workshop. Each stick is an invitation to stillness: for meditation, personal ritual, or simply nurturing your everyday wellbeing.
Sandalwood, agarwood and Japanese incense – the house collections
This collection brings together Baieido's defining lines, each rooted in specific raw materials and a distinct character:
White Sandalwood (Santalum album) – velvety, warm, grounding. A foundation running through many of the house's blends, it creates a calm and lasting atmosphere.
Genuine Agarwood (Aquilaria agallocha) – deep, balsamic, complex. A cornerstone of the Kodo incense tradition for centuries, here worked to its highest expression.
Shukohkoku – the premium line of the house, available in the classic version and as the richer, more concentrated Tokusen Shukohkoku.
Kunshokoh – a clean, wood-forward composition for those who prefer the pure over the complex.
How to use Baieido incense sticks
Light the tip of the incense stick briefly and gently blow out the flame after two to three seconds – it will then burn steadily on its own. Rest it in a suitable incense holder or on a heat-resistant ash tray. A single stick is enough to scent a room gently, whether for a meditation session or a quiet evening moment.
Baieido incense makes a thoughtful gift for anyone drawn to stillness, craftsmanship and Japanese tradition.
