Satya Nag Champa by Shrinivas Sugandhalaya (BNG) is one of the best-known Indian masala incense sticks. The 40 g pack offers the classic Nag Champa fragrance in a larger format and comes from Shrinivas Sugandhalaya (BNG) in Bangalore, India.
The characteristic fragrance combines warm sandalwood notes with floral, slightly spicy and resinous nuances. One of its defining floral notes is the champaka flower. This distinctive composition became so internationally renowned that “Nag Champa” is now also used to describe an entire family of similarly inspired Indian incense fragrances.
The incense sticks are produced as Masala Agarbathi. In this traditional Indian manufacturing method, the aromatic ingredients are blended into a fragrant mixture and rolled around a bamboo stick. This distinguishes them from dipped incense sticks, in which a pre-made stick is subsequently perfumed with a fragrance blend.
The history of Shrinivas Sugandhalaya dates back to 1964 and its founder, Shri K. N. Satyam Setty. Remarkably, Satyam Setty himself had no sense of smell. He studied traditional Indian knowledge of fragrances and incense and developed an incense composition that would later become famous worldwide.
The name Nag Champa is also linked to the family's history: “Nag” is said to derive from the name of his son Nagaraj, while “Champa” refers to the champaka flower.
Since the original company was divided, there have been two official Satya product lines from Shrinivas Sugandhalaya: BNG from Bangalore and MUM from Mumbai. These Nag Champa incense sticks are specifically produced by Shrinivas Sugandhalaya (BNG) LLP in Bangalore.
Light the tip of the incense stick, allow it to burn briefly, then gently blow out the flame. Place it in a suitable incense holder and allow it to smoulder slowly. Use only on a heat-resistant surface and never leave burning incense unattended.
