Product description

Baieido Tokusen Kobunboku, also known as Excellent Kobunboku, is the higher-grade version of the classic Kobunboku. The traditional composition based on Indian sandalwood is enhanced here with agarwood from Indonesia. This gives the incense greater woody depth and a less pronounced herbal character than the classic Kobunboku.

Traditional Japanese incense with agarwood

The composition consists of a total of 15 natural aromatic ingredients. Among the ingredients specified by Baieido are Indian sandalwood, Indonesian agarwood, cassia, star anise, patchouli and clove. The remaining ingredients in the complete formula are not individually specified.

In its fragrance, Tokusen Kobunboku combines a warm sandalwood base with the deeper, characteristic woody note of agarwood and spicy, aromatic nuances. Compared with the classic Kobunboku, the herbal character is somewhat less prominent, while the composition as a whole appears woodier and more complex.

An excellent introduction to traditional Japanese incense

Tokusen Kobunboku is a particularly interesting choice for anyone wishing to discover the world of traditional Japanese incense. Unlike modern floral or perfumed incense sticks, the focus here is on the classic combination of aromatic woods, spices and plants.

The composition is distinctive and complex enough to provide a good introduction to this traditional style, while remaining accessible to beginners. Thanks to the use of Indonesian agarwood at a still comparatively accessible price, Excellent Kobunboku also offers a very good balance of quality, complexity and price and is therefore appreciated by enthusiasts of Japanese incense as well.

Kobunboku – more than a plum blossom

The name Kobunboku is traditionally associated with the plum blossom. However, Tokusen Kobunboku should not be understood as an incense with a modern or realistic plum blossom fragrance. Its fragrance profile is primarily woody, spicy and aromatic, reflecting the traditional character of this Japanese incense composition.

Standard length in two pack sizes

This version contains incense sticks approximately 14 cm long and is available in packs of 10 g or 50 g. The burn time is approximately 45 minutes per stick. A separate long version with incense sticks approximately 24 cm in length is also available.
