Product description

Chui Woon by ChuiWoon HyangDang is a Korean incense with an unusual composition of plants and spices. It contains figwort (Scrophularia buergeriana), elecampane (Enula campana) and clove (Syzygium aromaticum), along with other spices. This combination gives Chui Woon a distinctive character within the range of the South Korean manufacturer.

Fragrance profile

Chui Woon has a warm, spicy fragrance with a pronounced herbal character. The aromatic plants create a rather earthy, botanical base, while clove contributes a distinctive warm spiciness. This clearly sets Chui Woon apart from the pine-focused Da Bo, as well as from many Japanese incense sticks whose compositions are more strongly shaped by sandalwood or agarwood.

A distinctive Korean botanical composition

The use of figwort and elecampane in particular makes Chui Woon an interesting choice for discovering Korean incense fragrances. Plants such as these illustrate how Korean and Japanese incense can follow different aromatic paths despite the outward similarity of their incense sticks and the use of some ingredients in common.

Incense has a long cultural history in Korea. One important testimony to this tradition is the gilt-bronze incense burner from the 6th-century Baekje Kingdom, which documents the highly developed incense culture of the Korean Peninsula as early as this period.

Format and burning time

One pack contains 60 g of incense. The sticks are approximately 14 cm long and have a burning time of around 40 minutes.

Chui Woon is made by ChuiWoon HyangDang in South Korea.
