Eritrean Frankincense 1st Grade is a carefully sorted quality of Boswellia papyrifera from Eritrea. The selection consists of clean, well-sorted medium to large resin grains in pale cream, yellow and beige tones.
Boswellia papyrifera is a frankincense species found across northeastern Africa, including Eritrea, Ethiopia and Sudan. The trees are adapted to dry, rocky landscapes. The resin offered here comes from Eritrea.
When burned, this Eritrean frankincense develops a fresh, resinous-balsamic fragrance with citrus and slightly pine-like nuances. Its fragrance character is comparatively mild and clear, making it an interesting alternative to stronger frankincense varieties from other regions of East Africa.
Boswellia papyrifera is one of the traditional frankincense species of northeastern Africa. Frankincense has played an important role as an aromatic substance for incense since antiquity and continues to be used in various cultural and religious traditions today. Particularly in Christian incense traditions, including Orthodox and Catholic ceremonies, frankincense is closely associated with prayer and liturgy.

A few resin grains can traditionally be placed on glowing incense charcoal.
