Product description
Kunjudo HA KO No. 1 Sandalwood is a Japanese incense paper made from perfumed washi paper on Awaji Island. The paper is carefully embossed and cut into the realistic shape of a zelkova leaf. Its delicate leaf veins and natural silhouette make HA KO both an unusual form of incense and a decorative fragrance object.
HA KO is an original creation by Kunjudo, produced using a patented manufacturing process. Its name combines the Japanese words for leaf and fragrance or incense. Each fragrance variation has its own leaf shape, selected for its aesthetics and effect, which does not necessarily correspond to the plant used in the fragrance.
HA KO No. 1 Sandalwood – a soft sandalwood fragrance
No. 1 Sandalwood interprets the characteristic fragrance of sandalwood in a particularly soft form. Kunjudo describes the composition as pure and sweet, with the typical woody character of sandalwood gently rounded off. Sandalwood thus opens the classic white HA KO series with a fragrance reminiscent of one of the most traditional aromatic materials in Japanese incense culture.
Burn as incense or allow the fragrance to unfold gradually
To burn as incense, light one end of the leaf and then blow out the flame. Place the smouldering leaf on a fireproof surface and allow it to burn slowly. The burning time is approximately 5 to 7 minutes. Do not leave unattended while smouldering.
However, the HA KO scented leaf does not need to be burned. It can, for example, be placed inside a book or letter, or displayed as a small decorative fragrance object, gradually releasing its scent. In this respect, the principle is reminiscent of Papier d’Arménie, while HA KO offers a distinctive Japanese interpretation made from embossed washi paper in an artfully crafted leaf shape.
