Kunjudo HA KO No. 2 Agarwood – Japanese Incense Paper

Kunjudo HA KO No. 2 Agarwood is a Japanese incense paper made from perfumed washi paper on Awaji Island. The paper is carefully embossed and cut into the shape of a hibiscus leaf. Its detailed leaf veins and botanical silhouette make HA KO a distinctive combination of incense paper and decorative fragrance object.

HA KO was developed by Kunjudo as a distinctive form of Japanese incense and is produced using a patented manufacturing process. Its name combines the Japanese words for leaf and fragrance or incense. No. 2 Agarwood is dedicated to the fragrance of agarwood, one of the most important traditional aromatic materials in Japanese incense culture. Kunjudo describes this variation as an elegant agarwood fragrance. The composition brings this characteristic scent to delicate washi paper, offering an unusual alternative to traditional Japanese incense sticks.

One scented leaf, two ways to enjoy it

To burn as incense, light one end of the leaf and then blow out the flame. Place the smouldering leaf on a fireproof surface and allow it to burn slowly. The burning time is approximately 5 to 7 minutes. Do not leave the incense paper unattended while it is smouldering.

HA KO can also be used without burning. The scented leaf can, for example, be placed inside a book or letter, or displayed as a decorative fragrance object, allowing its perfume to unfold gradually. As with Papier d’Arménie, the paper can therefore release its fragrance both without burning and while smouldering. However, HA KO offers its own distinctive Japanese interpretation of this principle, using embossed washi paper in an artfully crafted leaf shape.
