Sweet floral fragrance of Daphne

While many traditional Japanese incenses are characterised by aromatic woods, spices or herbs, in Karin Togetsu Kunjudo deliberately places the fragrance of Daphne, known in Japan as Jinchōge (沈丁花), at the forefront. The manufacturer describes the composition as elegant and sweet and clearly distinguishes it from more woody or traditionally herbal fragrance profiles.

Sandalwood as part of the fragrance composition

Kunjudo lists Tabu bark powder, sandalwood and fragrances as the basic ingredients. Although sandalwood is present, the floral Daphne note determines the perceptible fragrance character here. The manufacturer does not provide any further breakdown of the exact composition of the fragrances used.

Togetsu – a name with a connection to Kyoto

Togetsu (渡月) means approximately "crossing the moon". The name recalls Togetsukyō in Arashiyama near Kyoto, whose name is traditionally associated with the image of the moon moving across the bridge. The name Togetsu therefore also reflects the classical Japanese aesthetics that characterise the Karin series.

This box contains 80 g of Karin Togetsu incense sticks. The sticks are approx. 13.5 cm long and have a burning time of approx. 25 minutes. Kunjudo describes the smoke level as normal.

To use, light the tip of an incense stick and then blow out the flame. Place the glowing stick in a suitable incense holder and use it on a fire-resistant surface.
