Product description

Kobunboku is one of the best-known Japanese incenses by Baieido and a central classic in the range of this long-established manufacturer. The composition is based on Indian sandalwood (Santalum album) and combines its warm woody fragrance with selected spices and aromatic plants.

Alongside sandalwood, the traditional fragrance composition includes cassia, star anise and patchouli, among other ingredients. Together, these components create a distinctive spicy-woody fragrance with warm, slightly sweet and herbal nuances. This gives Kobunboku a very different personality from pure sandalwood incense sticks: the spices repeatedly come to the forefront, adding vibrancy and depth to the soft woody character.

Fragrance Profile

Warm, woody and spicy, with a soft sandalwood base and aromatic herbal and spice notes. Cassia adds a warm spiciness, star anise a distinctive aromatic facet, while patchouli complements the composition with a deeper, earthy note. The interplay of these different aromatic ingredients makes Kobunboku a complex Japanese incense whose individual nuances may become noticeable in different ways as it burns.

A Baieido Classic

Kobunboku holds a special place within Baieido's range and is one of the house's signature incenses. The name refers to the plum blossom, a traditional motif in Japanese culture. Despite the name, this is not a plum blossom incense: its fragrance character is instead defined by sandalwood, spices and aromatic plants.

The standard incense sticks are approximately 14 cm long, have a diameter of around 2 mm and burn for approximately 45 minutes. Kobunboku is available in standard packs of 40 g or 80 g.

Kobunboku for Longer Incense-Burning Sessions

In addition to the standard formats, Kobunboku is also made in longer versions. The long version measures 24 cm. For particularly long incense-burning sessions, there is also Kobunboku Daikunkoh with 34 cm long and slightly thicker incense sticks. The greater thickness gives these particularly long sticks the necessary stability.

The different formats make it possible to use Kobunboku both for everyday use and for longer incense-burning sessions and meditation.
