True lavender flowers (Lavandula angustifolia) from France can be used in many different ways: for incense burning, homemade incense blends, potpourri or for naturally fragrancing wardrobes and textiles. The dried flowers retain the characteristic fragrance of true lavender and are easy to measure.
Lavandula angustifolia, also known as true lavender or officinal lavender, belongs to the mint family. The plant is closely associated with southern France and Provence in particular, where lavender has long been cultivated for its aromatic fragrance.
The dried flowers release a fresh, herbaceous and delicately floral fragrance with a gentle natural sweetness. When burned as incense, the aroma becomes warmer and somewhat drier while retaining the unmistakable character of true lavender.
Lavender has been valued in Europe for centuries as a fragrant and aromatic plant. It was already used in ancient times for its pleasant fragrance and later became a well-established plant in monastery and herb gardens. Dried flowers were traditionally used to perfume rooms, linen and wardrobes and were also incorporated into incense and fragrance blends.
In various folk and spiritual traditions, lavender is associated with calm, harmony and a peaceful atmosphere. Such associations belong to cultural traditions and should not be understood as scientifically proven effects.
For incense burning, place a small amount of lavender flowers on a fully glowing incense charcoal disc. The flowers can be used on their own or combined with resins, woods and other herbs in individual incense blends.
Without burning, the dried flowers are also suitable for potpourri or small scented sachets, for example to fragrance wardrobes and textiles. Traditionally, lavender flowers are also used in wardrobes to help keep moths away.
