Elemense by Nippon Kodo is a Japanese incense series featuring five distinctive fragrance compositions inspired by the elements of nature: Air, Earth, Water, Fire and Space. Each variety has its own olfactory character, combining selected fragrance notes with landscapes and natural phenomena from different parts of the world.

From fresh, green herbal notes to earthy and woody fragrances, as well as fruity, balsamic and spicy compositions, Elemense offers five different ways to discover Japanese incense.

Five elements – five fragrance compositions

The series draws on the idea that the elements of nature are interconnected and together form a whole. Nippon Kodo has associated each element with its own fragrance composition and a distinctive natural landscape.

Air

Fragrance notes: anise, tomato leaf and galbanum.

Air is a fresh, green and aromatic composition inspired by the clear air of Chimborazo in Ecuador. Anise contributes a distinctive spicy note, while tomato leaf and galbanum emphasise the green, botanical character of the fragrance.

An unusual fragrance for lovers of fresh herbal aromas and green, slightly balsamic incense fragrances.

Earth

Fragrance notes: vetiver, cypress and patchouli.

Earth evokes the lush vegetation of the rainforests of El Mirador in Guatemala. The composition combines the earthy, woody character of vetiver with the aromatic notes of cypress and patchouli.

A warm, botanical and distinctly earthy fragrance that particularly appeals to lovers of woods, roots and classic patchouli aromas.

Water

Fragrance notes: Green Mist, Ice Water and a musk note.

Water is inspired by the landscape surrounding the Dettifoss waterfall in Iceland. The composition evokes cool water, fine mist and the fresh atmosphere of a landscape shaped by abundant water.

The aquatic fragrance notes are accompanied by a soft musk accord. The result is a fresh, clear and slightly powdery fragrance that differs considerably from the woody and spicy varieties in the series.

Fire

Fragrance notes: Philippine mango, clove and benzoin.

Fire is inspired by Mayon Volcano in the Philippines. The composition combines a fruity mango note with the warm, spicy character of clove and the sweet, balsamic depth of benzoin.

The result is an expressive fragrance with fruity, spicy and resinous facets. With its warm, sweet and balsamic character, Fire stands in particularly clear contrast to the fresh varieties Air and Water.

Space

Fragrance notes: saffron, cinnamon and an amber note.

Space is inspired by the expansive sand dunes of Erg Chebbi in Morocco. Saffron and cinnamon define the spicy character of this composition, while a warm amber note lends the fragrance a soft, balsamic depth.

An oriental-inspired fragrance that evokes warm spices and the distinctive atmosphere of a desert landscape.

Japanese incense sticks with ceramic holder

Each variety in the Elemense series comes in its own packaging, designed to reflect the corresponding element. Each pack contains 40 Japanese incense sticks and a small ceramic holder.

The burning time is approximately 30 minutes per stick. The included holder can be used on a suitable, heat-resistant surface.
