Shoyeido Premium Koh Ou – King is a traditional Japanese incense from the Premium Koh collection by Shoyeido, the Kyoto-based manufacturer. The documented composition of this earlier version combines agarwood, sandalwood, patchouli, cloves and other spices to create a deep, warm, aromatic and spicy fragrance. The original pack contains 35 long incense sticks without a bamboo core.

A deep fragrance with agarwood and patchouli

The fragrance of Ou – King is characterised by its pronounced woody character and warm, spicy nuances. The various aromatic ingredients come together in a complex composition whose character is more robust and earthy than light or floral.

Agarwood contributes to the deep, complex woody notes, while sandalwood adds a softer, slightly sweet warmth. Particularly interesting is the combination with patchouli, whose earthy and aromatic qualities give the blend an additional dimension.

Cloves provide a warm, spicy accent. Other spices, not individually identified in the historical composition, complete the fragrance. The result is a balanced combination of precious aromatic woods, earthy nuances and traditional Japanese spice blending.

Shoyeido's Premium Koh collection follows the tradition of sophisticated Japanese incense blends, in which selected aromatic woods and spices are carefully combined. Sandalwood and agarwood play particularly important roles in this type of incense.

The manufacturer Shoyeido has a history dating back to 1705. The Kyoto-based company is known for its expertise in producing traditional Japanese incense sticks and balancing complex fragrance compositions.

Within the earlier Premium Koh collection, Ou – King has a distinctive character. Compared with Tomo – Friend, which is also based on agarwood, sandalwood and spices, the fragrance description of Ou suggests a somewhat darker and deeper character due to its earthy patchouli note. This distinction describes the historically documented fragrance character, not a proven difference in the concentration of individual ingredients.

Ou – King: An earlier original version

The incense sticks offered here come from an earlier presentation of the Shoyeido Premium Koh collection. The understated packaging bears the historical product name Ou – King.

Shoyeido's current range includes a fragrance named Ohjya-koh – King's Aroma, which probably belongs to the same fragrance line. However, an exact correspondence between the earlier and current formulas has not been confirmed. This version is therefore offered under its original name and with its historically documented composition.

Contents and use

The original pack contains 35 Japanese incense sticks measuring approximately 18 cm in length. The average burning time is around 40 minutes per stick.

The sticks have no bamboo core. To use, briefly light the tip, gently blow out the flame and place the glowing stick in a suitable, heat-resistant incense holder.

Ensure adequate ventilation while burning incense and never leave burning incense sticks unattended.
