Aleppo Soap with 5% Laurel Oil

Saryane's Aleppo soap is made using the traditional method in Syria and is one of the oldest known natural soaps in the world. It consists primarily of high-quality olive oil, enriched with 5% laurel berry oil. This balanced composition makes it a particularly gentle soap for the daily cleansing of the face, hands, and body.

Unlike many industrially produced soaps, a traditional Aleppo soap contains no synthetic fragrances, dyes, or other unnecessary additives. As it matures, it develops its characteristic beige to golden-brown outer surface, while the inside retains its natural olive-green colour.

Traditional production

Production follows a time-honoured process that has remained almost unchanged for centuries. Olive oil is saponified for several days together with water and soda. Only towards the end of the boiling process is the precious laurel berry oil added, so that its properties are preserved as well as possible.

The still-warm soap mass is then poured out over large surfaces, cut by hand into rectangular pieces, and stamped with the maker's seal. The soap then cures for six to twelve months in well-ventilated rooms. During this time, it becomes increasingly hard, more economical to use, and especially pleasant in application.

Use

Occasionally, a fine white film may form on the surface. This is a natural characteristic of high-quality Aleppo soaps and not a sign of poor quality.
