Product description
Baikaju (梅花樹) – Plum Blossoms by Shoyeido is a traditional Japanese incense from Kyoto that combines the warmth of sandalwood with aromatic spices and gentle balsamic nuances. The name Baikaju loosely means "plum blossom tree", evoking the flowering of the Japanese plum, one of the first signs of spring.
Sandalwood, cinnamon and delicate balsamic sweetness
The fragrance composition of Shoyeido Baikaju is based on high-quality sandalwood, cinnamon and other spices. Sandalwood provides a warm, soft and woody base, while cinnamon contributes a slightly sweet spiciness. The spicy notes add further depth to the fragrance without overpowering its harmonious character.
Japanese product descriptions also mention benzoin as an aromatic ingredient. This resin adds a gentle balsamic sweetness to the woody and spicy fragrance. The result is a balanced composition with a fresh nuance reminiscent of the atmosphere of a forest in spring.
The ingredients mentioned are among the known components of this incense. The complete formula is not disclosed.
Baikaju – inspired by Japanese plum blossoms
The ume blossom, the flower of the Japanese plum, has a long cultural significance in Japan. It appears as early as late winter or early spring and is frequently depicted in Japanese poetry and art as a symbol of the arrival of spring.
The name Baikaju (梅花樹) draws on this traditional motif. The connection with plum blossoms is primarily poetic and decorative: it does not mean that the flowers themselves are among the incense ingredients used.
The packaging also reflects this theme. The light-coloured box is decorated with flowering plum branches, and its design is reminiscent of traditional Japanese washi paper.
