Product description

Shoyeido Kyozakura (京桜) – Kyoto Cherry Blossoms belongs to the classic Daily Incense collection by Shoyeido, the Japanese incense manufacturer based in Kyoto, also known as Nature & Tradition. This Japanese version combines sandalwood, cinnamon, benzoin resin, cloves and other spices to create a warm, woody and spicy fragrance composition with gentle balsamic nuances. It is sold as one individual roll containing 35 long incense sticks.

A warm fragrance with sandalwood, spices and benzoin

The fragrance of Kyozakura is characterised by the interplay of aromatic woods, spices and balsamic notes. Sandalwood provides a soft, woody foundation, while cinnamon and cloves contribute a pleasant, slightly piquant spiciness.

Benzoin resin complements the blend with a warm, resinous and gently sweet fragrance note. Additional spices round off the composition and give it a complex character.

The result is a harmonious, woody and spicy incense fragrance with balsamic warmth. Although Kyozakura is named after Kyoto's cherry blossoms, it does not have a pronounced floral character. Instead, its fragrance follows the tradition of classic Japanese incense blends made from aromatic woods and spices.

Kyozakura – the cherry blossoms of Kyoto

The Japanese name Kyozakura (京桜) combines Kyoto with Sakura, the Japanese cherry blossom. The English name Kyoto Cherry Blossoms evokes the distinctive atmosphere of spring in Japan's former imperial capital.

During cherry blossom season, Kyoto's gardens, temple grounds and historic pathways are transformed into a landscape of delicate white and pink blossoms. In Japan, cherry blossoms are an important cultural motif and are traditionally associated with the beauty and fleeting nature of the moment.

This seasonal inspiration is also reflected in the design of the Japanese packaging. Soft colours and illustrations of flowering cherry branches emphasise the poetic character of the incense.

The product name describes the cultural inspiration behind the composition. It does not mean that cherry blossoms are actually used as a fragrance ingredient.

Traditional Japanese incense craftsmanship by Shoyeido

The history of Shoyeido dates back to 1705. The Kyoto-based company is one of Japan's long-established incense manufacturers and is known for its carefully balanced fragrance compositions.

The Daily Incense collection includes a variety of classic incense blends for regular use. Within this range, Kyozakura is distinguished by its combination of warm sandalwood, aromatic spices and a subtle balsamic sweetness.

Japanese version with olive-grey incense sticks

The Japanese version of Kyozakura offered here features incense sticks in a light, slightly greyish olive shade. This visually distinguishes them from the international Kyo-Zakura – Kyoto Cherry Blossoms version, whose sticks are brown.

On the international packaging, the product name is written with a hyphen as Kyo-Zakura. The Japanese version, by contrast, uses the name Kyozakura without a hyphen. Both spellings refer to the same Shoyeido incense.

The documented fragrance ingredients include sandalwood, cinnamon, benzoin resin, cloves and other spices. As the complete formulas and blending proportions of the different versions are not disclosed, any possible differences in composition cannot be reliably determined.

In addition to this long-stick version, Kyozakura is also available in a large Japanese box containing 490 shorter incense sticks.

Contents and sales unit

The stated price is for 1 roll of Kyozakura containing 35 incense sticks. The sticks measure approximately 22 cm in length, have no bamboo core and have an average burning time of around 50 minutes.

The product photograph shows the original Japanese box containing a total of 10 rolls. Only one individual roll containing 35 incense sticks is supplied, not the entire box shown in the photograph.
