Somali Frankincense Powder 50 g – Boswellia carterii

Somali Frankincense Powder is finely ground natural frankincense resin from Boswellia carterii from Somalia. It is the same Somali olibanum as the variety sold in resin grains and pieces, but here it has been processed into a fine incense powder.

Somalia is one of the major regions of origin for natural frankincense. The Boswellia trees growing there are adapted to the dry landscapes of the Horn of Africa. Grinding changes the form of the resin, but not its characteristic fragrance.

Fragrance of Boswellia carterii

When burned, the powder develops the typical fragrance of Somali frankincense: fresh, balsamic, resinous and citrusy, accompanied by light woody and earthy nuances. Because of its fine form, the resin reacts to heat more quickly than larger grains and therefore releases its fragrance rapidly and intensely.

Frankincense powder for burning and incense blends

The powdered form can be measured very precisely and is particularly well suited to creating your own incense blends. It can be mixed with other resins, aromatic woods or incense plants and disperses more evenly than larger resin pieces.

Like other frankincense, the powdered form is traditionally used in religious and ceremonial incense burning and as an accompaniment to prayer and meditation. In various incense traditions, frankincense is also burned to cleanse rooms and create a special atmosphere. These meanings are based on cultural and religious traditions and should not be understood as medical effects.

How to burn frankincense powder correctly

The powder can be sprinkled in small amounts onto glowing incense charcoal. Because the fine resin particles come into contact with the hot surface much more quickly than whole resin grains, the powder burns faster and develops its fragrance more intensely. It is therefore advisable to begin with only a small amount and add more as needed.
