Product description

This smudge bundle of white sage and dragon’s blood combines dried leaves of Californian white sage (Salvia apiana) with red dragon’s blood resin. The sage leaves are tied into a bundle approximately 10 cm long and coated with the characteristic red layer of resin.

White sage is one of the best-known aromatic plants used for incense in North America and is burned in various traditions. Dragon’s blood, by contrast, does not refer to a single plant species, but to different red plant resins that may come from different botanical genera depending on their origin. The exact botanical source of the dragon’s blood used for this bundle is not known.

White Sage and Dragon’s Blood for Incense Burning

This combination differs noticeably from a classic smudge bundle made only from white sage. The dragon’s blood complements the strong, dry and herbaceous character of the sage with warmer, resinous and spicy nuances. This creates a fuller and more intense incense aroma.

In various incense traditions, white sage is associated with ritual cleansing. Dragon’s blood, in turn, is traditionally associated, among other things, with protection and the strengthening of ritual intentions. These meanings belong to the realm of inherited spiritual and cultural practices and should not be understood as scientifically proven effects.

Fragrance Profile

When smouldering, the intense herbal fragrance of white sage blends with the warm, spicy and resinous character of dragon’s blood. Compared with pure white sage, the fragrance profile is therefore denser, warmer and distinctly more resinous.

How to Use

The bundle is used directly, without incense charcoal:

  • Light one end of the smudge bundle and allow it to burn for approximately 30 to 60 seconds.
  • Then carefully blow out the flame so that the plant material and resin continue to smoulder slowly.
  • Place the bundle on a heat-resistant surface or in a suitable incense bowl during use.
  • Extinguish the embers carefully after use and make sure that the bundle is completely out.

Ensure adequate ventilation while burning and never leave the smouldering bundle unattended.
