Product description

Baieido Zukoh (塗香) is a traditional Japanese fragrance powder applied to the skin or used to subtly perfume clothing. This distinctive blend by the Japanese manufacturer Baieido is made from finely ground aromatic woods and spices. It has a warm, spicy and slightly sweet fragrance. The resealable pouch contains 15 g of fragrance powder.

Zukoh – The Japanese tradition of fragrance powder

Zukoh, written 塗香 in Japanese, refers to a finely ground aromatic powder traditionally applied directly to the body. Unlike conventional incense, it is not burned but releases its fragrance when applied to the skin or clothing.

In Japanese Buddhist tradition, Zukoh is used, among other occasions, before prayers and religious ceremonies. Applying the fragrance powder is associated with the concept of ritual purification. This significance belongs to the religious and cultural use of the product and should not be confused with any medical or hygienic cleansing effect.

Today, Zukoh is also appreciated as a personal fragrance powder outside religious contexts. It offers a traditional Japanese alternative to liquid perfumes.

A warm composition of sandalwood and spices

According to the manufacturer, Baieido Zukoh is based on sandalwood combined with other aromatic botanical ingredients and spices. These include cloves and cinnamon, among other traditional aromatic materials.

The fragrance is warm, gently spicy and slightly sweet. The woody foundation of sandalwood blends with the aromatic spice notes to create an understated, classic fragrance composition.

The complete formula and exact blending proportions are not disclosed.

Use as a fragrance for the body and clothing

For traditional use, a small amount of powder is placed in the palm of the hand and applied sparingly to the skin. Zukoh can also be used to subtly perfume clothing.

As this is a fine powder containing aromatic ingredients, careful dosing is recommended. Those with sensitive skin should first test their tolerance on a small area. When applying the powder to textiles, be aware that it may leave visible residues.

The packaging features a practical press-to-close seal and can be resealed after opening. This also makes the fragrance powder convenient to carry when travelling.
