Traditional Mount Athos incense with Cassia fragrance

This Orthodox incense is made from natural frankincense resin from Boswellia papyrifera and refined with the warm fragrance of Cassia, also known as Chinese cinnamon. The small incense pieces are traditionally coated with a fine powder to prevent them from sticking together and to make them easy to use.

Mount Athos is an autonomous monastic republic in northern Greece and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. The peninsula is home to around twenty Orthodox monasteries belonging to Greek, Serbian, Bulgarian and Russian traditions. Only a few of these monasteries still produce their own incense according to traditional recipes passed down through generations.

Orthodox incense is traditionally burned during church services, prayers and religious ceremonies. Outside a liturgical setting, many people also appreciate its distinctive fragrance as an accompaniment to meditation, quiet moments or for naturally scenting living spaces. These uses are rooted in religious and cultural traditions.
