This traditional incense is produced on Mount Athos in Greece. It is made from high-quality frankincense resin from Boswellia papyrifera from Ethiopia, refined with the characteristic fragrance of Myrrh. Mount Athos is an autonomous monastic republic in northern Greece and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. The peninsula is home to around twenty Orthodox monasteries belonging to Greek, Serbian, Bulgarian and Russian traditions. Some of these monasteries continue to produce incense today according to traditional recipes carefully preserved within the monastic communities.
