Orthodox Mount Athos incense with Myrrh fragrance
This traditional incense is produced on Mount Athos in Greece. It is made from high-quality frankincense resin from Boswellia papyrifera from Ethiopia, refined with the characteristic fragrance of Myrrh. This creates an expressive composition that combines the balsamic notes of frankincense with the deep, resinous character of Myrrh.
Mount Athos is an autonomous monastic republic in northern Greece and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. The peninsula is home to around twenty Orthodox monasteries belonging to Greek, Serbian, Bulgarian and Russian traditions. Some of these monasteries continue to produce incense today according to traditional recipes carefully preserved within the monastic communities.
In the Orthodox tradition, incense has accompanied church services, prayers and religious ceremonies for centuries. The combination of frankincense and Myrrh also has a long historical significance and is one of the best-known fragrance pairings in Christian tradition. These uses are rooted in religious and cultural traditions.
