Iranian mastic – Natural pistachio tree resin

This natural resin is obtained from the terebinth tree, Pistacia terebinthus, and is traditionally harvested in Iran. Although Chios mastic is the best-known variety worldwide, this Iranian resin offers an interesting and high-quality alternative for incense use.

Unlike carefully graded Chios mastic, which mainly consists of uniform tears, Iranian mastic is usually found in smaller, irregular resin pieces. This makes it particularly well suited for creating custom incense blends while offering excellent value for money without sacrificing the distinctive fragrance of pistachio tree resin.

When burned on incense charcoal, an incense burner with a sieve, or a metal plate, the resin releases a pleasantly fresh, resinous fragrance. In various incense traditions, mastic is often used for cleansing and harmonising incense rituals. It is frequently combined with frankincense, benzoin, or other resins. These uses are based on traditional customs.

Fragrance profile
