Product description

Galbanum Resin

Also called "mother resin", it is extracted from the stems of Ferula gummosa, a plant of the Apiaceae family, native to Central Asia (related to fennel). It is a neighbouring species of Asafoetida (but with a very different smell) originating from the same regions.

The gum-resin obtained is marketed in the form of a sticky paste, more or less dark brown in colour depending on the arrivals and the remains of impurities that are present.

The smell of Galbanum is grassy, green, leafy with earthy notes. This resin is mainly produced in Iran. It is used in perfumery. Chypre style perfumes may contain it.

In fumigation, it is beneficial in case of fear or great nervousness. It relaxes in cases of stress or in moments of confusion.

To burn galbanum without it sticking to your fingers, there is only one solution: freezing. This also applies to other very sticky gum-resins (Gummi elemi, Labdanum, Asa-foetida). Once frozen, you can break the resin into small pieces and place them on a charcoal tablet.

Latin name: Ferula Gummosa
Part of the plant used in fumigation: gum resin
Country of origin: Islamic Republic of Iran

Selling price: 0.45 CHF per gram

Most common synonyms : Ferula galbaniflua, Persian Galbanum, mother resin, etc.
